Cédric Bakambu, fellow Congolese international, has offered a tribute to Paul-José Mpoku following the latter's announcement of retirement from professional football. Mpoku, a 33-year-old attacking midfielder, officially declared the end of his playing career on March 6th, having reportedly appeared in over 450 professional matches.
Bakambu, currently with Real Betis, described Mpoku as an "incredible friend" whose career was "exemplary." The sentiment, shared across social media platforms, highlights the respect Mpoku commands among his peers, extending beyond his on-field contributions.
Mpoku, who also represented the Democratic Republic of Congo national team, was known for his "vision of the game" and ability to influence midfield play. His career spanned various clubs, marked by what is described as a rich tapestry of experiences and emotions. The Congolese player, born in Kinshasa on April 19, 1992, held dual citizenship with DR Congo and Belgium. He is also noted as a cousin to Eliézer Mpoku and brother to Albert Sambi Lokonga, both also involved in football.
