Patrick Vieira, 49, is no longer the coach of Italian club Genoa. The French manager's departure was announced on November 1, 2025, following a string of poor results that saw the club endure its worst-ever start to a league season.
The club cited a winless streak of nine matches—three draws and six losses—as the primary reason for the dismissal. This move comes shortly after Genoa had reaffirmed Vieira's position following the dismissal of their sporting director, only for the decision to be reversed within a day.
Managerial Carousel Continues
Vieira's exit from Genoa leaves him as the last remaining French manager in one of Europe's top four leagues. This stark reality contrasts with his prior roles, including a tenure at Crystal Palace where his team finished fourth in the English league, a significant improvement.

A Career of Varied Stints
Vieira's managerial journey has seen him at the helm of clubs such as OGC Nice and Crystal Palace. His career statistics indicate an average coaching tenure of 1.93 years, with a preferred formation of 4-2-3-1. The French UEFA Pro Licence holder has also been associated with major clubs during his playing career, including Arsenal, where he played for a significant period, and Manchester City.
Past Opportunities and Decisions
Interestingly, during his playing days, Vieira reportedly turned down multiple offers from Real Madrid. In a separate interview, he mentioned this as his sole regret from a career that saw him play for prestigious clubs like AC Milan, Arsenal, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Manchester City. One offer from Arsenal to acquire him from AC Milan was reportedly around €5.35 million.
