Yamaguchi Mounts Comeback Victory
PV Sindhu, India's badminton ace and the tournament's sixth seed, has been eliminated from the Thailand Open following a three-game defeat to Japan's Akane Yamaguchi. The world No. 3, Yamaguchi, staged a comeback after losing the first game, ultimately securing a 19-21, 21-18, 21-15 victory in a contest lasting just over an hour. The quarterfinal match took place in Bangkok on Friday.
Sindhu acknowledged a lapse in consistency as a key factor in her defeat, particularly regretting the squandered lead in the second game. She also pointed to unforced errors as a significant impediment to her performance. In the deciding third game, Sindhu found herself trailing throughout, unable to regain momentum.
A Familiar Rivalry, A Familiar Outcome
Despite the loss, Sindhu maintains a positive head-to-head record against Yamaguchi, leading the series 15-13. However, this particular encounter saw Yamaguchi exhibit her trademark resilience. From a deficit of 7-11 in the second game, the Japanese player secured seven consecutive points to take a 14-11 lead, a crucial shift that ultimately dictated the match's trajectory.
