Noto Satoyama Airport, situated in Japan's Ishikawa Prefecture, is undergoing a comprehensive transformation this summer, officially rebranding as the Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport. This initiative, a collaboration between the Ishikawa Prefecture and the Pokémon With You Foundation, aims to revitalize the region following the 2024 Noto Peninsula earthquake. The project positions the airport not merely as a transit point but as a destination in its own right, blending popular culture with community recovery. The activation is slated to run through September 2029.
The airport's overhaul involves extensive Pokémon-themed decorations, exclusive merchandise, specialized culinary offerings, and dedicated transport links designed to attract visitors and stimulate local economic activity.
Immersive Themed Experience
The airport's interior is set to be awash with Pokémon imagery. Passengers arriving will encounter decorated signs, boarding bridges, and walls adorned with characters. A prominent feature will be a giant Pikachu atrium balloon, alongside 3D monuments of Pikachu, Plusle, and Minun. The theme extends to the observation deck and throughout the terminal building. Notably, the airport will showcase all 111 Flying-type Pokémon, a detail intended to offer a sense of discovery for visitors. An original animated series, viewable on smartphones within the terminal, is also part of the immersive experience.

Culinary and Retail Offerings
The dining experience at Restaurant Annon, located on the third floor, will feature a special menu. Offerings include two types of Pokémon-inspired pancakes and two unique drinks. Visitors ordering combo sets may receive special collectible placemats. The 'Serendipity' gift shop will provide limited-edition merchandise. Items available for purchase include T-shirts, keychains, luggage tags, and suitcase belts, all featuring original artwork that incorporates Flying-type Pokémon, rainbows, and motifs of travel and hope. The merchandise also includes items branded with the airport's exclusive logo and Poké Balls.

Enhanced Transportation Network
To facilitate exploration of the Noto Peninsula, specially wrapped Pokémon buses will connect travelers to various destinations. One bus route will operate a daily round trip linking Kanazawa Station, the airport, and Wajima City. A second, newly established route is designed to connect the airport with a range of "character hotspots" across the peninsula, including specific themed locations such as the Wakura Pokémon Footbath and the Sylveon with LOVE monument in Suzu City.
Broader Context and Rationale
This extensive themed transformation is framed as a deliberate strategy to rebuild visitor numbers and resident engagement in an area significantly impacted by natural disaster. The Pokémon With You Foundation, established in 2011 after a major earthquake, has a history of supporting disaster-affected communities in Japan. The project at Noto Satoyama Airport is presented as one of the most ambitious post-earthquake recovery efforts to date, aiming to leverage the global appeal of the Pokémon franchise to foster a sense of hope and facilitate renewal.
