The Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) has earmarked a substantial ₹460 crore for the development of new residential layouts, primarily at Bommenahalli and Vijayashreepura, signaling a renewed focus on expansion and urban planning within its jurisdiction. This extensive financial commitment, presented in the authority's budget, also covers crucial infrastructure upgrades, including drinking water projects and road development, alongside environmental initiatives like lake rejuvenation.

Project Scope and Funding Details
The primary allocation of ₹460 crore is designated for forming new residential layouts. A significant portion of this is planned for Bommenahalli, where a new layout is slated to be developed on approximately 500 acres, a plan that has been revived after an eight-year hiatus. This initiative is to be undertaken in partnership with farmers under a '50:50 ratio land sharing model', with farmers from Bommenahalli and Kamarahalli having already agreed to provide land. Another new layout is planned at Vijayashreepura.

Organizational Context and Recent Activities
The Mysuru Development Authority (MDA), previously known as the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA), has been actively engaged in several organizational and developmental activities. In its recent meetings, the MDA has approved new layout projects spanning hundreds of acres and has also sanctioned sites for war martyrs.

The authority is also embracing digitization, planning to develop mobile applications for tracking MDA properties and digitizing records, a move aimed at streamlining operations and enhancing transparency, similar to initiatives by the revenue department. The MDA has also seen revenue generation through e-auctions of residential and commercial sites, indicating a strategic approach to financial management. The MDA anticipates a revenue of ₹871.5 crore during the financial year and plans to spend ₹548.4 crore on various development works.

The revived layout plan at Bommenahalli, now under the leadership of MDA Chairman and Mysuru Deputy Commissioner G. Lakshmikanth Reddy, involves the appointment of a dedicated five-member team exclusively for layout-related tasks. This initiative aims to expedite the development process and address the long waiting lists of applicants for sites. The proposed layout at Bommenahalli is expected to yield approximately 9,000 residential sites on 500 acres. The MDA is also looking to develop 15,000 sites on 2,000 acres in Bommenahalli, Kamarahalli, and other villages under the decade-old 50:50 site-sharing scheme.
