MANIPUR, March 7, 2026 – Security forces have apprehended five individuals, including four people identified as members of banned militant organizations, across several districts in Manipur. The operation, conducted over March 5th and 6th, resulted in the seizure of various arms and explosives, fueling ongoing anxieties about the volatile security landscape in the region.

The arrests underscore persistent militant activity in Manipur, with recovered items including firearms, ammunition, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The precise affiliations and alleged roles of the apprehended individuals remain under scrutiny, with reports indicating their connection to outfits like the National Revolutionary Front of Manipur (NRFM), United National Liberation Front (UNLF - Pambei faction), and others.

One NRFM cadre was taken into custody at Imphal International Airport. In Imphal East, a UNLF (Pambei) cadre and an associate were arrested, leading to the recovery of a 9 mm pistol. Further operations in Bishnupur district led to the detention of two more individuals. This later apprehension prompted the recovery of an HK-33 rifle, 38 live rounds, and three IEDs from the vicinity of Takmu lakeside.

Reports from December 2025 indicate a separate incident where five militants from the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) were arrested. This earlier operation also yielded a significant cache of arms, including an SMG Carbine, a .303 rifle, various SBBL and 12-bore guns, modified rifles, pistols, and hand grenades.
Manipur has been grappling with sustained unrest, and authorities have cautioned the public against spreading misinformation or unverified content, particularly on social media, warning of legal repercussions. Security forces continue extensive counter-insurgency operations, including search missions and area dominance drives, particularly in vulnerable and mixed-population areas, while also providing escorts for essential supply convoys.
