Michael Marx, a 45-year-old Texan, faces federal charges including assault on federal officers and weapons offenses after an incident on the National Mall. Prosecutors allege Marx fired a firearm toward a Secret Service agent.
During the confrontation, a civilian bystander was struck and wounded. Surveillance footage and court filings describe Marx allegedly producing a firearm while running across a street, turning, and firing in the agent's direction. The agent returned fire, hitting Marx in the hand, left arm, and upper abdomen. Following the exchange, Marx allegedly made statements including "F**k the White House" and "Kill me, kill me, kill me."
Charges Filed
The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia has filed three charges against Marx:
Felony assault of federal officers with a dangerous weapon.
Discharging a firearm during a crime of violence.
Unlawful possession of a firearm.
Authorities state Marx did not possess a license to carry a firearm in Washington D.C. His prior record includes a 2011 drug trafficking conviction in Florida. A Texas driver's license was reportedly found on Marx.

Incident Details
The event unfolded near 15th Street and Independence Avenue SW on Monday afternoon. A Secret Service agent initially observed Marx in possession of a firearm. Uniformed officers then approached Marx among other pedestrians at an intersection.
The incident occurred shortly after Vice President JD Vance's motorcade departed the White House. While investigators have not specified whether Marx had a particular target, court filings indicate he was walking along the path of Vance's motorcade. The complaint does not explicitly detail whether Marx spit at officers as suggested in one report, though another filing mentions he did so while receiving aid.
Marx remains hospitalized, and his arraignment is scheduled for Monday. No lawyer has been identified for the suspect as of Wednesday afternoon.
