The long-standing radio partnership between Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson has apparently dissolved, resulting in Henderson’s departure from their KIIS FM show and Sandilands facing suspension. While Sandilands typically decamps to his Los Angeles residence during periods of intense media attention, sources suggest he is currently unable to leave Australia, tethered by the ongoing fallout and his commitments to 'Australian Idol'.

The on-air confrontation, which occurred on February 20th, reportedly began when Sandilands criticised Henderson for consulting horoscopes during a discussion about Prince Andrew. This incident escalated, leading Henderson to walk off-air and subsequently announce her inability to continue working with Sandilands. The radio network, ARN, has since proposed an alternative show for Henderson within their group.

Sandilands, known for a history of controversial remarks, has been suspended for a period of 14 days, a measure stemming from what is described as a breach of contract. His longer-term future on 'Australian Idol', where he serves as a judge, is also reportedly under review, with potential reappearance contingent on the resolution of his radio career's current turmoil.

The disintegration of the “highest-paid partnership in media” follows a period of disappointing ratings in the Melbourne market, which has been identified as a significant detriment to ARN's financial performance. Historically, their Sydney show on KIIS 106.5 had achieved considerable success, attracting a substantial audience and market share. This recent public spat, however, marks a stark contrast to previous on-air declarations from Henderson, who once described her work with Sandilands as more akin to a cherished friendship than a job.

Despite the apparent finality of Henderson's departure and Sandilands' suspension, Sandilands has publicly stated his belief that Henderson will return. The Australian Communications and Media Authority (Acma) had previously flagged the KIIS network for airing vulgar and explicit content, despite prior warnings.
