Marta Kostyuk, ranked world No. 23, has captured her first Madrid Open title, defeating Mirra Andreeva of Russia 7-5, 6-3 on Saturday. This victory marks the most significant career achievement for the Ukrainian, propelling her to a career-high world ranking of No. 15.
The match concluded with Andreeva's final shot sailing long, prompting Kostyuk to collapse onto the clay court in exultation.
Kostyuk's path to the title included overcoming significant pressure points. In the second set, she faced and saved two set points at 4-5. Andreeva then double-faulted at break point down at 5-all, giving Kostyuk the crucial opportunity to serve for the championship.
The Ukrainian's performance in Madrid was marked by sustained power and resourceful defense, frequently dictating points against Andreeva's initial strikes. Kostyuk had previously dispatched higher-ranked opponents, including a decisive straight-sets victory over world No. 5 Jessica Pegula in the third round. Her run to the final saw her drop only one set, that coming against Anastasia Potapova in the semifinals.

This Madrid Open win follows Kostyuk's recent triumph at the Rouen Open just two weeks prior, her second WTA tour title of the season, both contested on clay. The victory is noted as her 14th career top-10 win.
Andreeva, who celebrated her 19th birthday on Wednesday, appeared visibly distressed after the final, slumping into her chair and weeping into a towel. The eighth-ranked Russian acknowledged Kostyuk's win during the trophy ceremony. Kostyuk’s performance makes her only the second player ranked outside the top 20 to secure the Madrid title.
