Kiefer Sutherland, the actor also known for his musical endeavors, has pulled the plug on the U.S. portion of his tour. The stated reason: decidedly poor ticket sales. Sutherland communicated this decision on May 15, expressing a disinclination to perform for audiences that would not fill the venues. Refunds are to be processed at the point of purchase.
The cancellation affects the U.S. leg of his "Love Will Bring You Home Tour," which was scheduled to promote his forthcoming fourth solo album, 'Grey'. The album is slated for release on May 29. Sutherland indicated that two North American shows, one in Las Vegas on July 2 and another in Saguenay, Quebec, on July 11, are still on.
Artist Cites Fairness, Acknowledges Previous Hesitations
Sutherland articulated his reasoning on social media and his official website, stating, "I don’t think it’s fair to the people who have bought tickets, or the venues, to play to half empty houses." He further conveyed a desire to reschedule the U.S. dates for "a more suitable time." This move positions Sutherland alongside a growing number of artists grappling with audience engagement for live performances.

While other artists like Zayn Malik, Neil Young, Post Malone, and Jelly Roll have also cancelled dates recently, their reasons have not always been explicitly linked to ticket sales, citing health or other obligations. Sutherland's explicit acknowledgment of weak ticket sales marks a direct approach to the situation.
Album as Personal Reflection
The album 'Grey' has been described by Sutherland as his most personal work to date. He shared that the songs are a departure from observational lyrics, focusing instead on "personal feelings that I have been navigating in my own life." One track, "Simpler Time," is a reflection on his youth, a period he views as more stable culturally, socially, and politically, though he acknowledges the potential for nostalgic bias.
Sutherland has previously spoken about an initial resistance to releasing music professionally, stemming from an awareness of the "negative stigma attached to actors doing music." However, he ultimately found significant enjoyment in performing his songs live. His musical career has been established in the Americana genre, running parallel to his widely recognized acting roles in productions like '24' and 'Designated Survivor'. His prior U.K. and Ireland tour dates remain unaffected by this U.S. cancellation.
