Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell is reportedly finalizing a one-year agreement worth $1.4 million, a deal designated as a "supermax" contract. This development places Mitchell among the initial recipients of this elevated contract status within the league's history. The agreement aims to retain a key player who consistently delivered high-level performance, especially during the team's recent playoff push.
Mitchell's scoring prowess was a defining characteristic of her recent season. She achieved a career-best average of 20.2 points per game during the regular season, a franchise record for the Fever. This scoring output escalated further in the playoffs, where she averaged 22.3 points, positioning her second in postseason scoring behind A'ja Wilson.
Despite the significant challenge of multiple key guards, including Caitlin Clark, suffering season-ending injuries, Mitchell's individual performance was instrumental in the Fever's success. The team secured a first-round playoff sweep against the Atlanta Dream and pushed the eventual WNBA champions, the Las Vegas Aces, to a decisive five-game series.

Mitchell, a three-time WNBA All-Star, was also recognized with an All-WNBA selection in 2025, a testament to her consistent impact. Her established leadership and scoring ability were particularly crucial during the stretches where Caitlin Clark was sidelined, helping the Fever maintain a competitive record and secure a playoff berth. The contract also solidifies her position alongside Clark and Aliyah Boston as the team's foundational players, with Boston and Clark also facing restricted free agency in the future. Mitchell holds the franchise record for made three-pointers.
