Allegations of Conflict of Interest Prompt Plea for Cabinet Exit
Telangana Rakshana Sena (TRS) president Kalvakuntla Kavitha has formally petitioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi, demanding the immediate removal of Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, from his ministerial post. The request stems from a registered First Information Report (FIR) against Kumar's son, Bageerath, under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Kavitha's core argument centers on the perceived conflict of interest and the potential for undermining public trust in the justice system. She contends that Bandi Sanjay Kumar's continued presence in the Ministry of Home Affairs, a portfolio with significant oversight over law enforcement, casts a shadow of political influence over the investigation into his son's case.
Concerns Over Institutional Propriety and Neutrality
In a letter dispatched to the Prime Minister, Kavitha highlighted issues of "institutional propriety, legal ethics and public trust." She expressed apprehension that the continuation of Bandi Sanjay Kumar in his sensitive role could lead to perceptions of political or administrative interference in police procedures, evidence handling, and witness protection.

"Public faith in the neutrality of the justice system requires that no shadow of political influence hangs over the case involving a minor," Kavitha stated.
She emphasized that while the legal process is expected to determine guilt or innocence independently, the Minister's current position creates an "unavoidable conflict of interest." Kavitha further alleged that the pace of the probe has been criticized and suggested that authorities might be attempting to shield the Union Minister's son.
Broader Implications for Justice System Confidence
The Telangana Rakshana Sena chief asserted that for women in Telangana to believe in a transparent and unbiased investigation, the current situation must be addressed. The potential for perceived bias, she argued, directly impacts public confidence in the integrity of institutional mechanisms. The Ministry of Home Affairs and Bandi Sanjay Kumar's office have yet to issue an official response to Kavitha's representation. The case involves an FIR registered at the Petbasheerabad Police Station.
