Isaiah Thomas, once a celebrated scoring force for the Boston Celtics, has reportedly rejoined the franchise in a scouting capacity. Sources indicate Thomas has been hired as a professional and college scout for the team. The former two-time All-Star, standing at 5-foot-9, was observed this week alongside Celtics executives at the NBA Combine in Chicago, engaging with potential draft prospects and familiarizing himself with the evaluation process.
Thomas, 37, is slated to be based in his hometown of Seattle, Washington, providing coverage for the West Coast's talent pool. This move sees the former fan-favorite transition into a new chapter after a playing career hampered by persistent hip issues, which prevented him from recapturing his earlier form. He had been considering playing professionally in Europe and most recently played for the Utah Jazz's G League affiliate, the Salt Lake City Stars, less than six months ago.

The Celtics, under President of Basketball Operations Brad Stevens, appear to be integrating Thomas into their scouting apparatus. Stevens previously credited Thomas with helping to foster the team culture that has contributed to its recent successes. Thomas's tenure with Boston as a player, spanning parts of three seasons, included his most productive years, marked by two All-Star selections and three postseason appearances. His lengthy NBA career saw him play for ten different franchises.
