A social media personality, Ellie Crampsie, has been sentenced to 16 months in prison after admitting to smuggling over 17 kilograms of cannabis into Edinburgh Airport. The 23-year-old, known for her presence in Glasgow's nightlife scene and brand promotions, was apprehended upon her return from a holiday in Thailand.
Crampsie pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of cannabis. The substantial quantity of the Class B drug, valued at approximately £150,000, was discovered in vacuum-sealed packages within her luggage.
Sentencing was deferred by Sheriff Graeme Watson at Edinburgh Sheriff Court to allow for a criminal justice social work report and a restriction of liberty assessment. Her defence lawyer noted her lack of significant prior offending and the support of her parents.
The case highlights a trend of increased drug smuggling from Thailand, with authorities reporting coordinated efforts between UK and Thai agencies to intercept traffickers. Recent figures indicate that a significant portion of individuals caught smuggling drugs into Scottish airports have arrived from Thailand.
