Caio Collet and Jack Harvey have been relegated to the rear of the field for the Indianapolis 500 following post-qualifying technical inspection failures. IndyCar Officiating found modifications to the Energy Management System (EMS) covers and their mounting points to the A-arms, using unapproved hardware. Both drivers will also select their pit stalls after the rest of the field.
Collet, a rookie who had qualified for the Fast 12 and was set to start 10th, will now begin at the very back. Harvey, originally slated for 29th, faces the same fate. The rulebook dictates that the EMS covers, which enclose the wheel tethers, must be used as supplied by Dallara. Collet also incurred points for his participation in the Top 12 shootout.
These penalties highlight ongoing scrutiny of IndyCar Officiating, a new body established in December. This independent group was formed partly in response to previous issues, including post-race technical infringements involving Team Penske, Andretti Global, and Prema Racing at last year's Indy 500. While no cars had failed inspections this season until these recent incidents, IndyCar Officiating has been under a watchful eye following penalties in the Grand Prix of Long Beach and the Sonsio Grand Prix. Teams are urged to exercise increased diligence in ensuring compliance for upcoming races.
