Google's Gemini AI is now integrated across Docs, Sheets, and Slides, capable of generating entire presentations, spreadsheets, and documents from user prompts, drawing on data from emails, chats, and files within Google Drive. This expansion marks a significant step in embedding generative AI within the company's productivity suite, aiming to streamline content creation and data analysis.

The new capabilities allow users to create complete slide decks with editable slides that conform to a chosen theme. For Google Sheets, Gemini is positioned as a "collaborative partner," capable of generating full spreadsheets. In Google Drive, a new "Ask Gemini" feature provides AI-generated overviews of search results, summarizing relevant information from files and citing sources. Users can also prompt Gemini to create specific outputs, like a P&L dashboard derived from service incident logs and rate cards, or to optimize employee scheduling.

The stated intention behind these updates is to facilitate faster project initiation and enhance collaborative workflows. Gemini can now generate first drafts of documents by pulling information from a user's Gmail, Chat, and Drive. It can also act as an editing assistant, refining text, strengthening messages, and building upon existing ideas using natural language commands. The company emphasizes that this integration is designed to connect disparate pieces of information and uncover insights, while also safeguarding user data.

These features began rolling out on March 10th, initially in beta for specific Google AI plan subscribers and Gemini Alpha business customers, with availability in English only. The Drive features were initially limited to US customers.

Integration History and Scope
The current rollout builds upon earlier integrations. As of November 2025, Gemini's "Deep Research" function gained the ability to connect with Gmail, Docs, Drive, and Chat. This allowed users, including students and faculty, to analyze existing personal documents and combine them with web research for reports. For business planning, it enabled analysis of internal documents, memos, and communications to assist with new product analysis or project onboarding. This previous iteration focused on analyzing existing content from various Google applications and PDFs stored in Drive.

The expansion announced in March 2026 broadens Gemini's role from primarily an analytical tool to an active content generator across the Workspace suite. The focus has shifted towards generating initial drafts and complete files, rather than solely analyzing existing ones. The introduction of a Gemini chat window directly within Google Docs is a visible manifestation of this deeper embedding.
