Epic Games and Disney have rolled out a substantial new set of tools allowing creators within Fortnite's 'Unreal Editor for Fortnite' (UEFN) and 'Creative' modes to build Star Wars-inspired experiences. This marks the largest intellectual property (IP) toolset launched to date for the platform, providing access to official characters, locations, vehicles, and weapons, alongside licensed music.
Creators can now develop and, starting May 1st, publish these Star Wars-themed islands. The initiative sees a dedicated Star Wars collection page launching in the game's 'Discover' section on the same date, with eligible creations potentially receiving prominent placement.
The partnership aims to lower the barrier for building branded content. Disney has been described as an "amazing" partner, contributing assets with an ethos of empowering creators. However, the arrangement is not without its stipulations. Creators must adhere to specific 'Star Wars Brand Rules' and any Star Wars island created is explicitly not owned by the creator.

Furthermore, creators who wish to generate revenue from their Star Wars-themed islands must agree to a 20 percent payout share with Disney. A list of restricted trademarks, including specific game titles like Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Outlaws, has also been provided, indicating a degree of control over how the IP is utilized.
This move follows a long-standing relationship between Epic and Star Wars, which has seen numerous crossovers within Fortnite's battle royale mode over the past seven years. The introduction of these tools signifies an expansion of branded content within Fortnite, following previous collaborations with franchises such as Lego and Squid Game. Developers can access tutorials and documentation to learn how to utilize the new assets and features.
