NO CHARGES FILED BY WAYNE COUNTY PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE
The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office announced Friday, May 1, that Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf will not face criminal charges stemming from a December incident with a fan at Ford Field in Detroit. The decision comes after an "extensive review of all the relevant evidence," with the prosecutor's office stating that a warrant request has been denied.
The altercation involved Metcalf and a fan identified as Ryan Kennedy, a 45-year-old Detroit Lions supporter. According to statements, Kennedy approached Metcalf near the stands, reportedly holding a Metcalf jersey with the intention of obtaining an autograph. During a brief interaction, Metcalf is described as having grabbed Kennedy's shirt and pushed him back.

FAN UNINJURED, NO MEDICAL ATTENTION SOUGHT
Evidence indicates that Ryan Kennedy did not appear to be injured during the encounter and did not seek medical attention at the game. This detail, among others, factored into the prosecutor's decision not to pursue criminal charges against Metcalf. The fan has since reportedly indicated an intention to pursue a civil lawsuit against the wide receiver.

NFL SUSPENSION CONTEXT
Metcalf's interaction with the fan led to a subsequent suspension by the NFL. He was sidelined for Weeks 17 and 18 of the past season, though he was eligible to play in the Steelers' Wild Card round playoff game against the Houston Texans. The player appealed this suspension, but it was ultimately denied. The team, Pittsburgh, did not impose further contract-related penalties on Metcalf regarding the incident.
BACKGROUND
The incident occurred in December during a game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. Metcalf, a 28-year-old receiver acquired via trade from the Seattle Seahawks, concluded the season with 850 yards and six touchdowns on 59 receptions. While Metcalf has remained silent on the specifics of the event, media reports have circulated, citing alleged verbal provocations from the fan, including the use of a racial slur and insults directed at Metcalf's mother.
