A Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Portland saw an unexpected delivery just minutes before landing on Friday night. A passenger, identified as Ashley Blair, gave birth to a healthy baby girl, Brielle Renee Blair, weighing 5 1/2 pounds (2.5 kg). The arrival was facilitated by two paramedics, Tina Fritz and Caarin Powell, who happened to be on board. Faced with limited resources, the medical professionals improvised, using blankets borrowed from fellow passengers and a shoelace to tie off the umbilical cord.
The flight, Delta flight 478, was approaching Portland International Airport around 10 p.m. Pacific time when the passenger went into labor. The birth occurred approximately 30 minutes before the plane touched down. Delta has stated that their policy does not impose restrictions on pregnant passengers flying with the airline.
Initial reports from Delta suggested that a doctor and two nurses assisted the flight crew. However, paramedic Tina Fritz, speaking to the Associated Press, clarified that there was no doctor present, and the sole nurse on board was attending to another passenger with a medical issue. This left Fritz and Powell to manage the impromptu delivery.

The birth was not the only medical event on the flight. Fritz and Powell were also assisting another ailing passenger, which meant they had to switch seats and enlist help from others for Blair's delivery. Delta has issued a statement expressing well wishes to the new family and acknowledging the assistance provided by the crew and the medical volunteers.
This incident occurred on April 24th, according to some reports. The flight originated from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
