New Delhi - The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted searches across seven locations in Chandigarh and Panchkula as part of an intensifying investigation into the alleged misappropriation of government funds in Haryana. The agency seized financial records and digital evidence believed to be linked to a significant fraud involving public funds.
Searches, carried out on May 14, targeted residential premises, business establishments, jewellers' showrooms, and locations connected to suspected beneficiaries and other private entities involved in the case. Officials stated that these actions were undertaken to recover and seize incriminating documents and articles.
The core of the investigation revolves around allegations that certain officials from IDFC First Bank and AU Small Finance Bank, acting in concert with public servants from various Haryana government departments, engaged in fraudulent means to misappropriate government funds. The estimated amount involved in this alleged scheme is substantial, with reports pointing to figures around ₹590 crore and ₹550 crore.
