Captain Ajay Pant, a merchant navy officer from Nainital, Uttarakhand, is currently held in judicial custody at HMP Winchester, United Kingdom. Pant was arrested on June 14 for allegedly violating British sanctions concerning Russian oil shipments. His next court appearance is scheduled for July 16.
The Indian High Commission in London is actively monitoring the situation, maintaining communication with Pant's wife, Ritu Pant, his legal representatives, and his employer, Energios Maritime Private Limited. The company has pledged to provide legal assistance to Pant and support to his family.
Diplomatic Channels Engaged
Officials from the High Commission established initial contact with Captain Pant on June 19 via a prison telephone. The High Commission has also engaged with the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office to ensure timely consular access and safeguard Pant's welfare and legal rights. This information has been relayed to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami through official correspondence. The High Commission has assured the Chief Minister that consular assistance and support will continue to be extended to both Pant and his family.
