Call of the Elder Gods, the sequel to the puzzle adventure game Call of the Sea, is slated for release on May 12. The title will be available across multiple platforms including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. A significant detail for many players is its inclusion day-one with Xbox Game Pass.

A COSMIC EXPANSION
The game promises a more expansive narrative and gameplay experience compared to its predecessor. Unlike Call of the Sea, which was confined to a single location, Call of the Elder Gods will traverse "across space and time," suggesting a broader scope.

The sequel is described as a Lovecraftian mystery, featuring brain teasers with greater depth and complexity. Players will assume the roles of two characters: Harry Everhart, an archaeology professor and returning figure from the first game, and Evangeline Drayton, a newcomer described as a university student and engineer. The original game's protagonist, Norah Everhart, will reportedly be out of the picture gameplay-wise but will serve as the narrator.

VOICES FROM THE DEEP
Notable voice actors are returning and joining the cast. Yuri Lowenthal, who voiced Harry, will reprise his role. Cissy Jones, who garnered acclaim for her portrayal of Norah in the original Call of the Sea, is listed as joining the cast, though her specific role has not been detailed beyond the narrator function.

SETTING AND DESIGN
The environments are said to be varied, ranging from New England manor libraries to the Australian Outback, and even frozen deserts and timeless cities. These locales are rendered using Unreal Engine 5, accompanied by an original soundtrack composed by Eduardo De La Iglesia. The gameplay will again focus on puzzle-solving, with options to toggle hints, icons, and journal entries to adjust difficulty.

BACKGROUND ECHOES

Its success has apparently paved the way for this follow-up, Call of the Elder Gods, from developer Out of the Blue Games and publisher Kwalee. A demo for the game is currently available on Steam.
