The incident occurred on March 5, when California Highway Patrol officers responded to a report of a BMW driving erratically on U.S. 101 in Ventura County. The case was subsequently handed over to the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office on March 23, with a decision on charges anticipated before a court date scheduled for May 4.
Spears' actions have drawn commentary from a representative, who called them "completely inexcusable" and suggested it could be "the first step in long overdue change." The singer herself alluded to the arrest in a social media post on March 27, accompanying a video of herself dancing with her 19-year-old son, Jayden Federline.
