MONTREAL – Authorities are examining a human body discovered submerged along the banks of the Rivière des Prairies, marking the latest in a series of unsettling finds along the waterway. The discovery, made near the intersection of Gouin West and Saint-Jean Boulevards in the Pierrefonds-Roxboro borough, prompted a 911 call Thursday morning. Police spokesperson Florence Stafford confirmed the presence of the deceased individual, whose identity remains unverified.
The case will be transferred to the Quebec Coroner’s office, tasked with pinpointing the cause of death and confirming the individual's identity. Divers and emergency crews had previously conducted extensive searches of the river.
Pierrefonds Discovery
The body was reported to Montreal police (SPVM) around 10:35 a.m. Thursday, situated at the water’s edge. This latest incident echoes a past tragedy where two teenagers fell through the ice in March near Jacques-Bizard Boulevard, a location west of the recent discovery. While one teen was successfully rescued, efforts to find an 18-year-old male were suspended after three days.

Precedent of Discoveries
This recent find is not an isolated event. In late September 2025, police investigated after what was described as a human body part, believed to be a severed head, washed ashore in Montreal North along the same river. Sources indicated the remains were "from above the shoulders." Investigators at the time were working to identify the presumed male individual, and the Quebec Coroner's office was involved. Divers were deployed then to search for additional clues. A similar discovery of an unidentified body occurred in late June 2025 near Gouin Boulevard and Martin Avenue in the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough. Investigations into these prior incidents were also referred to the coroner.
