Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a fast bowler, took three wickets while giving up 26 runs in a recent Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Delhi Capitals (DC). This performance, marked by disrupting DC's initial batting with early wickets, follows a season where Kumar has collected ten wickets across six matches. The outing has renewed a public discussion regarding his potential return to the national team.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif has advocated for Kumar's inclusion, noting the bowler's ability to unsettle high-level batters through swing. Kaif expressed this view after the RCB-DC encounter, where Kumar reduced Delhi to 18/3 during the opening overs while defending a target of 176.
Kaif's Consistent Endorsement
Kaif's support for Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not a new development. He has previously spoken on the bowler's career trajectory, alleging Kumar was not treated appropriately by the Indian team setup.

"He was treated unfairly in the Indian team," Mohammad Kaif stated in November 2025, ahead of the 2026 IPL auction."India still don't have a replacement for Bhuvneshwar Kumar."
Kaif also recalled pushing for a young Bhuvneshwar during his time in Uttar Pradesh domestic cricket, despite selectors initially hesitating due to age concerns. He suggested then that Kumar had chosen to focus on white-ball cricket, acknowledging his body's limitations for the longer format.
The Bowler's Own Perspective
In September 2025, Bhuvneshwar Kumar himself addressed questions about his future with the national squad. He stated that a return would ultimately depend on the decisions of the selectors. At that time, Kumar was leading the Lucknow Falcons in the UP T20 League, having taken nine wickets in that tournament and focusing on domestic showings to influence future selections. His current IPL efforts now extend that conversation.
