Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has officially processed over 400 million passengers since its inception. This significant numerical boundary was crossed in April 2026. The airport's operational performance reportedly scaled up in sync with this traffic increase.
The airport attributes this expansion to a "robust surge in international passenger" numbers, cementing its role as a "dynamic air hub."
During the financial year 2025-26, KIA logged 2,80,800 air traffic movements, marking a 4.5% year-on-year increase. The daily average for these movements stood at 769, with a peak of 837 movements recorded on a single day. International passenger traffic is cited as the primary driver behind this growth.
Connectivity and Cargo
KIA currently provides non-stop flight connections to over 78 domestic and 34 international destinations. The airport also operates 15 cargo airlines, servicing 38 destinations worldwide. These cargo routes link Bengaluru to global centers such as Chicago, Singapore, London, Frankfurt, Shenzhen, and Hong Kong. In the 2025-26 financial year alone, the airport handled approximately 6 crore (60 million) tons of cargo.
