Midnight Intrusion Escalates to Gunfire
A burglary attempt in Karadigudda village, Bagalkot district, took a violent turn on Saturday night, resulting in a woman sustaining a gunshot wound. The accused, identified as Prashant Siddaram Navi from Devaranimbargi village, allegedly fired a weapon while attempting to flee after being apprehended inside the residence of Holeppa Mugali.

The woman, identified as Basavva Holeppa Mugali, was injured when a bullet ricocheted and struck her leg. She is reportedly recovering in hospital.

Confrontation and Capture
Navi reportedly entered the Mugali household with the explicit intention of stealing valuables, specifically gold ornaments according to some reports. While Holeppa Mugali attempted to apprehend the intruder, the situation escalated with the firing of shots from a country-made pistol. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, also assisted in restraining the accused before handing him over to the police. A country-made pistol and live bullets were recovered from Navi.

Official Response and Ongoing Investigation
Police have registered a case at the Badami Police Station and arrested the accused. Investigations are underway to ascertain how Navi procured the weapon and if he has prior criminal involvements. Bagalkot Superintendent of Police Siddharth Goyal and Badami Circle Inspector Kariyappa Banne visited the scene following the incident.
