Zachariah Branch, a former University of Georgia wide receiver and projected high-round pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, was arrested early Sunday morning in Athens, Georgia. He faces two misdemeanor charges: obstructing public sidewalks/streets—prowling and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. The arrest occurred after Branch attended Georgia's spring game, G-Day, on Saturday.
Branch was booked into the Clarke County Jail at 1:26 a.m. Sunday and released at 3:44 a.m. on a $39 bond. His brother, Zion Branch, plays safety for the Georgia Bulldogs.
The incident, occurring just days before the NFL Draft scheduled to begin on Thursday, April 23rd, raises questions about its potential impact on Branch's draft stock. Scouts and teams have reportedly shown significant interest, with Branch having conducted visits with the Atlanta Falcons and Las Vegas Raiders, alongside virtual meetings with numerous other franchises. In a recent interview, Branch described himself as a "great person" and highlighted his "Branch Out Foundation," aimed at supporting those with fewer resources.

Branch had a notable collegiate career at Georgia, where he set the school's single-season reception record last season with 81 catches for 811 yards and six touchdowns. He also proved to be a dynamic playmaker on special teams, returning kickoffs for 442 yards and a touchdown, and punts for 332 yards and another score. His performance at the NFL Scouting Combine, including a 4.35-second 40-yard dash, had bolstered his draft prospects. He was considered the nation's top wide receiver recruit coming out of high school. Georgia officials have declined to comment on the matter, a standard practice for former players.
