Wizards of the Coast, the entity behind Dungeons & Dragons, has abruptly dissolved its publishing agreement with Giant Skull, effectively shelving a planned action-adventure game within the D&D universe. The partnership, announced mere months ago in June 2025, has met an untimely end without public pronouncements from either side.
The cancellation appears to be part of broader cost-cutting measures at Hasbro, parent company to Wizards of the Coast. This move has triggered unease among observers who are now watching closely for any further impacts on the Dungeons & Dragons video game portfolio.
Giant Skull, an independent outfit helmed by industry veterans including Stig Asmussen – known for his directorial work on titles like Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor – confirmed they are exploring new publishing avenues. Asmussen, also credited for his contributions to God of War III, stated the studio remains in a viable position and is open to future project proposals. Hasbro indicated a willingness to still consider pitches from Giant Skull, despite this dissolution.

This abrupt end to the collaboration means the specific action-adventure title from Giant Skull will not proceed. Wizards of the Coast is continuing with other D&D game projects, notably an untitled title from Archetype Studios and Warlock: Dungeons & Dragons being developed by Invoke Studios. The Dungeons & Dragons community has voiced disappointment online, reflecting a history of uneven success for the franchise in the digital realm.
