Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr will return for at least two more seasons, but his bench will look significantly altered. Two key assistants, Terry Stotts and Jerry Stackhouse, are not being retained for the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season, according to multiple reports. Both coaches were on expiring contracts.
Stotts, who served as the team's lead offensive assistant, and Stackhouse, who focused on defense, are reportedly seeking head coaching opportunities elsewhere. Their departures follow the mid-season exit of another assistant, Chris DeMarco, who took the head coaching position with the WNBA's New York Liberty.
Kerr himself recently inked a two-year contract extension with the Warriors, solidifying his presence with the franchise. The exact timeline of these discussions regarding Stotts and Stackhouse's futures appears to have occurred late in the regular season.

Background and Coaching Pedigrees
Terry Stotts, 68, brings a lengthy resume to his departure, including 13 seasons as an NBA head coach, most notably with the Portland Trail Blazers. Before joining the Warriors two seasons ago, he also had a stint coaching at Vanderbilt University.
Jerry Stackhouse, 51, concluded his second season on Kerr's staff. A former 18-year NBA player, Stackhouse has been recognized for his contributions to the Warriors' defensive schemes.
Sources indicate that Stotts informed Kerr of his decision to leave late in the regular season, expressing openness to NBA head coaching roles. Stackhouse reportedly conveyed disappointment over not receiving an interview for head coaching positions.
The team has not yet announced replacements for Stotts and Stackhouse. Veteran assistant Kris Weems, who was elevated mid-season, is expected to remain with the club. The departures of Stotts and Stackhouse occur days after Kerr's own contract extension was finalized.
