YOUNGSTER LOSES LIFE AFTER BALCONY PLUNGE
VELLORE — A two-year-old boy is dead following an accidental fall from a balcony in Thorapadi, within Vellore Corporation limits. The incident occurred on Wednesday, with preliminary reports indicating the child was left unattended with toys on the second-floor balcony of a rented home. The parents were reportedly engaged in household chores at the time of the fall.
The family had been residing in the rented accommodation for a few months. The immediate circumstances surrounding the fall are under police investigation, focusing on the dynamics of supervision within the home.

OTHER INCIDENTS ECHO SIMILAR DANGERS
This recent event in Vellore is not an isolated case. Similar tragic incidents involving young children falling from heights have been reported in various locations. A one-year-old boy died after falling into a water tank near Gudiyatham, also in Vellore district, on December 26, 2025. In that instance, the child was playing on the veranda while family members were conversing with relatives.

Further afield, a 1.5-year-old toddler died after a fall from a second-floor balcony in Colvale in September 2024. These recurring scenarios highlight a pattern of vulnerability for very young children in residential environments.
NEAR MISSES AND HEROISM
While the outcome in Vellore was fatal, other incidents have involved swift intervention. In January 2025, a bystander in Thane, identified as Bhavesh Mahatre, managed to partially break the fall of a toddler who tumbled from a 13th-floor balcony, resulting in only minor injuries. This event, captured on video, underscored the precariousness of child safety in elevated spaces. Another instance involved a youth saving a child from a third-floor balcony in Dombivli in January 2025, though details from this report were minimal.
