Fourteen people are confirmed dead and dozens more injured following a devastating train collision on Monday evening outside Jakarta. The crash occurred at Bekasi Timur Station, a suburban hub approximately 25 kilometers east of the capital.
The incident involved a long-distance train striking the rear car of a stationary commuter train. The commuter train, which included a women-only carriage at its rear, had stopped at the station prior to the impact. Emergency services concluded their extensive rescue operations, which spanned nearly 12 hours, by Tuesday morning, with officials stating no further victims were found trapped in the wreckage.
Survivors recounted harrowing experiences of being trapped in the mangled carriages. Sausan Sarifah, 29, who sustained a broken arm and a deep thigh wound, described the immediate aftermath: "I thought I was going to die."
