A project to construct an elevated walkway along the Thalassery sea bridge is slated to commence on March 12. This initiative, part of broader 'heritage tourism' efforts in the region, aims to bolster the district's appeal to visitors. The construction will be undertaken by the Kerala Irrigation Infrastructure Development Corporation (KIIDC) using an EPC model, with funding from the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

The walkway is intended to connect the sea bridge with Jawahar Ghat, a historically significant area. Alongside this, site beautification projects are planned for the vicinity of the sea bridge. Officials suggest this will enhance Thalassery's standing as a heritage tourism destination and attract more visitors. This elevated walkway is being presented as a novel development for India.

Further heritage tourism projects in Thalassery are also in progress. These include renovations at the Illikunnu Church, the establishment of a Thalassery Heritage Tourism Headquarters at the Municipal Stadium, and the erection of monuments at key junctions. These monuments are intended to underscore Thalassery's reputation as the 'land of the three Cs' — Cake, Cricket, and Circus. A foundation stone-laying ceremony is scheduled for the evening of March 12 at Jawahar Ghat.

The project's tender process was anticipated to be completed by the end of May, according to reports from mid-May 2025. Representatives from KIIDC, including General Manager Shaila, Chief Engineer Prakash Idikkula, and the Speaker's private secretary T.V. Rajesh, were reportedly involved in discussions reviewing the progress. The Assembly Speaker, A.N. Shamseer, has been a key figure in advocating for these tourism development initiatives.
