PRACTICE CUT SHORT AMID BLISTER DRAMA
Rory McIlroy concluded his practice session for the upcoming PGA Championship prematurely on Tuesday. The interruption stemmed from a persistent toe issue, specifically a blister forming beneath the nail of his right pinky toe. This discomfort, which initially surfaced last week during the Truist Championship, forced him to cease play after a mere three holes at Aronimink Golf Club. Reports from the course indicated McIlroy repeatedly inspecting his foot and removing his shoe, prompting concern about his readiness for the major.
SELF-TREATMENT AND REASSURANCE
The Northern Irishman confirmed a recent, drastic measure to alleviate the pain: ripping off the affected toenail. "I ripped the nail completely off to better treat the blister," McIlroy stated, adding that the toe is now "totally fine." He insists the issue will not hinder his performance at the major, despite the limited preparation. He plans to use a toe separator during the championship as a preventative measure.

UNFAMILIAR TERRITORY AND PLAYER CONCERNS
Aronimink Golf Club, the venue for this year's PGA Championship, appears to be a relatively new challenge for McIlroy, who has made a concerted effort to strategically select major appearances since his Masters victory a year ago. His disrupted practice routine comes as Brooks Koepka reportedly confirmed a significant change to his own major participation strategy. McIlroy's struggles were compounded by challenging fan interactions, described as the "full Philly fan experience."
RECENT FORM AND FUTURE OUTLOOK
McIlroy's recent competitive outing saw him finish tied for 19th at the Truist Championship. His quest for a third PGA Championship title and a seventh major overall is set to commence on Thursday, paired with Jon Rahm and Jordan Spieth. Despite the toe trouble, McIlroy's camp was observed arriving with multiple pairs of shoes, suggesting a proactive approach to managing his comfort on the course. He had previously made a discrete visit to Aronimink two weeks prior to the event to scout the course.
