Eleven Metropolitan Police officers are now under investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) concerning their handling of the inquiry into a road crash that killed two eight-year-old schoolgirls, Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau, in July 2023. Four serving officers, holding ranks from commander down to detective constable, and one former detective inspector are facing probes for alleged gross misconduct. Additionally, two serving detective constables are being investigated for alleged misconduct.
The families of Nuria Sajjad and Selena Lau have voiced their dissatisfaction, stating that the initial police investigation into the fatal collision was flawed and left many questions unanswered. They have insisted that "the truth must come to light" and expressed their conviction that the investigation was not conducted thoroughly enough.
The driver of the 4x4 vehicle, Claire Freemantle, was involved in the incident. The Metropolitan Police had announced in June 2024 that she would face no criminal charges, citing an epileptic seizure as the cause. Details surrounding Freemantle's arrest and subsequent release under investigation in January of last year were also noted.

The IOPC's expanded investigation comes after the families raised concerns about the adequacy and thoroughness of the initial probe. Some reports suggest that allegations of racism have also been raised in relation to how the Metropolitan Police handled the case.
