Former Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has cancelled a selection of her book tour appearances, a move occurring in the wake of her partner, surgeon Dr. Reza Adib, facing multiple rape charges. While some events have been postponed, with one specific instance noted at Fraser Coast Libraries, her publicist, Max Markson, maintains the overall book tour will continue.
Dr. Adib, 65, was formally charged last week with three counts of rape, two counts of deprivation of liberty, and one count of sexual assault. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 14. The accusations stem from an alleged incident involving a woman in her 30s at Dr. Adib's residence on March 30. Queensland Police confirmed that Ms. Palaszczuk herself is not facing any accusations of wrongdoing in relation to these charges.
The events surrounding Dr. Adib's charges have played out against the backdrop of Ms. Palaszczuk's promotional activities for her new memoir, "The Politics of Being Me." Notably, a police raid on Dr. Adib's apartment transpired on a Thursday, mere hours before Ms. Palaszczuk was due to speak at a public event for her book on the Gold Coast. At the time of the raid, authorities reported seizing unidentified substances from the unit. Despite these developments, Ms. Palaszczuk's publicist initially indicated to The Australian on Sunday that no discussions about cancelling events had taken place. Ms. Palaszczuk has also continued to share content related to her book on social media platforms. Dr. Adib, a prominent Brisbane-based obesity surgeon, reportedly made no public statements to reporters when accompanied by his lawyer, Dan Rogers, on the day of his charging.
