Mysuru - Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Thursday inspected two significant infrastructure projects in Mysuru, collectively valued at ₹564 crore. The review covered ongoing white-topping road works estimated at ₹393.85 crore and the redevelopment of Maharani’s Women’s Science and Arts College, a project costing ₹170 crore.
The white-topping initiative focuses on 12 major city roads, including key stretches like JLB Road, Mysuru-Hunsur Road, and Mysuru-Bogadi Road. Works on the Mysuru-Manandavadi Road are part of this, with specific allocations for segments like the Basaveshwara Circle to Ring Road stretch via Nanjumalige and Srirampura, costing ₹42.74 crore. An additional ₹50 crore package targets a 4.941-km stretch from JLB Road to Ring Road, passing through Akashvani and Jayadeva Hospital.
The Chief Minister examined the concrete road development efforts, undertaken by the Public Works Department, which span 46.088 km across vital city arteries.

Budgetary Allocations and Wider Infrastructure Push
This review follows a broader budgetary emphasis on Mysuru's development. The Karnataka Budget 2026-27, presented earlier this year, allocated substantial funds for various sectors. Notably, Healthcare Infrastructure saw completed Peripheral Cancer Centres in Mysuru and Tumakuru at a cost of ₹92 crore. The Jayadeva Cardiovascular Hospital in Mysuru is slated for an upgrade from 400 to 600 beds, with an investment of ₹180 crore.
The budget also earmarks funds for the Karnataka Exhibition Authority and proposes the construction of a Modern Cycling Velodrome at Dattagalli, Mysuru. Overall, the budget, with a total outlay of ₹4,48,004 crore, prioritizes technology-driven growth, infrastructure, and environmental sustainability.
Strategic Development and Funding Requests
Beyond Mysuru, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has actively pursued infrastructure development across the state. In April 2026, he presented a memorandum to the Prime Minister, requesting a ₹6,000 crore special grant for Bengaluru's infrastructure. This plea highlighted 17 key demands, emphasizing Bengaluru's economic contribution.

Among these requests was the inclusion of the Bengaluru–Mysuru stretch in a proposed high-speed rail corridor, aimed at fostering balanced regional development and enhancing connectivity. The Chief Minister also called for the sanction and execution of pending national highway projects, noting a lack of major new allocations in this sector over the past decade.
Previous cabinet decisions, such as those in February 2025, approved the creation of a ₹75 crore cluster seed fund to promote startups beyond Bengaluru, specifically targeting cities like Mysuru.
Background: A Pattern of Infrastructure Focus
Recent years have seen a consistent focus on infrastructure review and development under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah's leadership. In December 2025, a review meeting addressed infrastructure and railway projects, noting that approximately 58% of works, worth ₹2,040 crore out of a total allocation, had been completed. Directives were issued for prompt payment of bills for completed works. The scale of these projects underscores a broader administrative effort to upgrade and expand public infrastructure across Karnataka.
