AUTHORITIES TAKE SWIFT ACTION AMIDST PUBLIC SCRUTINY
A video depicting students discarding mid-day meal food into a dustbin has prompted swift intervention from Human Resource Development Minister Nara Lokesh. The incident, which unfolded at a government school in Mylavaram, NTR district, has led to the suspension of the school's headmaster and the replacement of the food supply agency. The Minister acknowledged the gravity of the situation, expressing regret to students and parents and emphasizing the need for better care within government educational institutions.
A three-member committee was immediately formed to investigate the matter. Reports suggest that the inquiry found the headmaster, identified as John, had allegedly misled students and disseminated misinformation on social media, contributing to the controversy. In response to the findings, the food agency responsible for supplying the meals has been removed.
MINISTER ISSUES WARNINGS, CALLS FOR ENHANCED OVERSIGHT
Minister Lokesh has conveyed a stern warning against any compromise on the taste, hygiene, quality, or nutritional value of food provided under the mid-day meal scheme. During a review with education department officials, he mandated that a teacher must verify and taste the food before it is served to students, a measure aimed at reinforcing quality control.

"Our students deserve good quality care in government schools, and we will ensure they receive it."
Further, a suggestion was made for local elected representatives, such as MLAs, to visit at least one school weekly within their constituencies. This would involve participating in the mid-day meal alongside students to identify shortcomings and facilitate prompt corrective actions. The Minister also indicated plans to integrate a feature on the 'LEAP' app, enabling parents to report issues in real-time, thereby fostering greater accountability.

The headmaster's suspension comes with allegations of misleading students and creating a controversy through social media. Authorities reportedly identified the headmaster's actions as an attempt to circulate misinformation and damage the reputation of the government's mid-day meal program. The incident at the Taraka Ramanagar Mandal Parishad Model Primary School in Mylavaram has put the spotlight on the implementation and oversight of the scheme.
