New Release Window, Demo Details Emerge for Zelda-Inspired Adventure
Yacht Club Games, the studio behind the popular 'Shovel Knight' series, has unveiled new details for their upcoming action-adventure title, 'Mina The Hollower'. The game, described as a homage to 'Game Boy' classics and 'The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening', is now slated for a Spring 2026 release. A limited-time demo is set to be available on the PlayStation 5 starting February 13th.

'Mina The Hollower' is positioned as Yacht Club Games' most ambitious project to date, featuring a larger world than all 'Shovel Knight' games combined.

The game places players in control of Mina, a mouse protagonist on a quest to rescue a cursed island. Gameplay mechanics highlight experimentation, with players able to balance a currency system derived from collected bones for experience or purchases. Mina is equipped with healing vials, collectible trinkets for buffs, and various weapons, each with limited ammunition, demanding judicious use. The combat and exploration blend elements reminiscent of 'Castlevania' with the intricate platforming that defined 'Shovel Knight'.

A Blend of Retro Inspirations and Modern Ambition
'Mina The Hollower' draws significant inspiration from the early 'The Legend of Zelda' titles, particularly 'Link's Awakening', and incorporates a gothic atmosphere that echoes 'Castlevania'. Developers have also cited influences from the 'Souls-like' genre, suggesting a more challenging and mechanically deep experience than their previous work.

"We returned to our roots to kick off Mina the Hollower’s development as a KickStarter campaign." - Yacht Club Games
The game's scope is notable; estimates suggest a full playthrough could take around 30 hours. This ambition is supported by a robust level-up system and a 'New Game Plus' mode, intended to enhance replayability. The world itself is described as containing more total screens than the entirety of 'Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove'.
Crowdfunding and Development Journey
'Mina The Hollower' originated as a Kickstarter campaign, allowing Yacht Club Games to engage directly with their audience for feedback and support. Studio founder and game director Sean Velasco has emphasized the role of crowdfunding in achieving the game's "massive scope". While 'Shovel Knight' benefited from the constraints of 'NES-style' design, 'Mina The Hollower's 'Game Boy Color'-era aesthetic has apparently allowed the team to invent more of their own rules.

The game is slated for release on PC (Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Early reports indicated an October 31st release date for some platforms, but the Spring 2026 window appears to be the most current announcement.
A New Direction After Shovel Knight
Following the success and subsequent spin-offs of the 'Shovel Knight' franchise, 'Mina The Hollower' represents Yacht Club Games' first entirely new intellectual property in years. The studio aims to deliver a game that maintains the quality associated with their previous work while exploring new avenues of gameplay and narrative.
