His recent performance, particularly in the final eight games after recovering from a foot injury, showed an uptick: averaging 18.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks.
The move signals an active recruitment strategy by Michigan's new coach, Dusty May, who is reportedly utilizing the transfer portal to reshape the team's lineup following a championship season. Thiam's previous stint at UCF saw him lead the Big 12 in blocks, with averages of 10.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks across 34 games. Notably, Thiam has demonstrated an ability to score from outside the paint, having made 38 three-pointers over two seasons and a significant percentage of mid-range attempts.
