A Seven-Foot-Two Addition for the Wolverines
Moustapha Thiam, a 7-foot-2 center previously with Cincinnati, has committed to Michigan. The announcement arrived Friday, placing him among the more prominent figures available in the transfer portal. Thiam’s statistics for the past season include averages of 12.8 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks per game. His recent performance, particularly in the final eight games after recovering from a foot injury, showed an uptick: averaging 18.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks.
The move signals an active recruitment strategy by Michigan's new coach, Dusty May, who is reportedly utilizing the transfer portal to reshape the team's lineup following a championship season. Thiam's previous stint at UCF saw him lead the Big 12 in blocks, with averages of 10.4 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.6 blocks across 34 games. Notably, Thiam has demonstrated an ability to score from outside the paint, having made 38 three-pointers over two seasons and a significant percentage of mid-range attempts.

A Look at Thiam's Path
Thiam's college career began at UCF before he transferred to Cincinnati for the most recent season. He has been a starter in all 65 games he has played across his two college seasons. His addition to Michigan follows earlier commitments from J.P. Estrella (Tennessee) and Jalen Reed (LSU).
Broader Context of Michigan's Roster Moves
The Wolverines' roster is undergoing considerable change. It's reported that Elliot Cadeau is the sole returning starter from their national championship victory. Other key players, such as Morez Johnson Jr., are exploring NBA draft options, while Aday Mara, another significant center, has yet to finalize his future plans. Nimari Burnett and Yaxel Lendeborg have completed their NCAA eligibility.
