Three individuals have been apprehended following an incident in Malappuram, Kerala, where a gunman and driver accompanying Member of Parliament Shashi Tharoor were allegedly assaulted. The confrontation transpired near the Chelithode bridge, a site of a roadblock, as Tharoor was en route to an election campaign event for Congress leader A.P. Anilkumar.

The official report, as per Wandoor Police, indicates that the obstruction was initiated by occupants of two vehicles who then allegedly targeted Tharoor's vehicle. When the gunman attempted to address the roadblock, he and the driver reportedly faced an assault. An FIR has been filed, and police have taken one person into custody. Reports from Malayalam media specify that three individuals were ultimately arrested in connection with the event.

The incident occurred on Friday around 7:30 PM near Thiruvali in Wandoor. Accounts suggest that a group on motorcycles blocked the MP's vehicle, verbally abused him, and then proceeded to assault the gunman. This followed the blocking of Tharoor's car as he was travelling for the campaign.
