President Trump has personally highlighted the renovation's progress. He posted images on 'Truth Social' showcasing workers applying the coating, stating, "I do many such things for Government and, as President, it is my Honor to do so." Trump also made a 'surprise visit' on Thursday, May 7, inspecting the work from within the drained pool and speaking with reporters. He has also taken credit for fixing fountains in Lafayette Park and plans to erect a "massive triumphal arch" on the Potomac River.

The timeline for the refurbishment, described by a contractor as potentially completable in "about two weeks," is notably swift.

The impetus for the renovation, according to Trump, stemmed from a visit by a friend from Germany who expressed dismay at the pool's deteriorating condition. Trump brought up the project unprompted at a White House event focused on drug pricing. This overhaul is part of a series of construction projects initiated since Trump's return to the White House, including the paving over of the Rose Garden and the installation of new flagpoles.
