Kevin Durant Out of Game 1 Against Lakers with Knee Contusion
Kevin Durant, a key player for the Houston Rockets, has been officially ruled out of Game 1 of their first-round playoff series against the Los Angeles Lakers. The veteran forward is sidelined due to a right knee contusion, an injury sustained during a practice session this week. The Rockets will face the Lakers on Saturday, April 18th, without their leading scorer.
The Rockets initially listed Durant, 37, as questionable on their injury report Friday, but the decision was made to hold him out for the series opener. Durant averaged 26.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists per game in his debut season with Houston. His absence means Reed Sheppard will step into the starting lineup.
The Lakers are also navigating significant injury concerns. They are without stars Luka Doncic (hamstring) and Austin Reaves (oblique), both of whom suffered injuries in an April 2nd loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Lakers coach JJ Redick stated Tuesday that both players are out indefinitely.
