KARIMNAGAR – Early Wednesday morning, a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) bus and an oncoming lorry collided on the Kothirampur bypass road near Karimnagar. Twelve passengers sustained injuries in the incident, which occurred around 6 a.m. on April 22, 2026.
The accident involved a TGSRTC bus travelling from Karimnagar towards Hyderabad. Preliminary reports suggest the lorry, moving in the opposite direction, attempted a right turn towards Peddapalli when it struck the front of the bus.
Substitute Drivers Under Scrutiny Amid Ongoing Strike
The collision has intensified scrutiny on the TGSRTC's decision to hire private drivers to operate buses during the ongoing statewide strike. Sources indicate the bus involved in Wednesday's crash was operated by a private driver. Passengers reported seeing a lack of available buses at stops, with many forced to wait.
The bus in question, identified as belonging to the Karimnagar-2 depot, was reportedly en route to Warangal. Another report states the bus was travelling from Nizamabad to Warangal.

Local residents reportedly assisted in the rescue of the injured passengers. The impact caused considerable damage to the front of the bus. An investigation into the matter is underway, with a case registered by authorities.
A Pattern of Road Incidents
