Former England captain John Terry has publicly voiced concerns regarding England manager Thomas Tuchel's conduct towards Tottenham full-back Djed Spence during the ongoing World Cup. Terry alleges that Tuchel's repeated, visible admonishments of Spence from the touchline suggest a pattern of singling out the player, a behaviour he suggests would not be directed at other prominent figures in the squad, such as Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Terry, speaking on 'Piers Morgan Uncensored,' posited that Tuchel may be targeting Spence as an "easier target" for his criticisms. He contrasted this with what he believes would be Tuchel's less confrontational approach if faced with a player of Alexander-Arnold's stature.
"I’m not saying he’s picking him out – but he seems like he’s having a proper dig at him," Terry reportedly stated. He added that while he generally respects Tuchel's managerial abilities, observing the treatment of Spence prompts him to question the coach's approach. "If that’s Trent, I’m not sure he’s behaving like that; I’m not sure he’s talking to Trent like that."

The former Chelsea skipper also touched upon Spence's club form, noting that the player has featured for a "struggling Spurs side" this year. Despite this, Terry observed that Spence has still been relied upon and played in matches, indicating a potential disconnect between his perceived underperformance and his continued selection.
This isn't the first instance of Terry scrutinizing Tuchel's decisions related to the England squad. Earlier, Terry had expressed bewilderment over Tuchel's choices regarding squad selection, specifically questioning the omissions of players like Cole Palmer and Harry Maguire. He argued that these players, possessing the capacity to influence games, should have been part of the World Cup contingent.
Terry's critiques extend to the overall depth and tactical acumen of the squad under Tuchel, suggesting that certain players might be "carrying" others. This implies a broader dissatisfaction with Tuchel's management, encompassing both player selection and in-game interactions.
