Quick City Excursions Planned for Hyderabad Airport Passengers
Telangana Tourism is developing short-duration, flexible tourism packages for transit passengers at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA). The initiative aims to allow travelers with limited time between flights to experience the city's heritage sites and other attractions, before being returned to the airport for their connecting journeys.
Details of the proposed offerings emerged from discussions with Kranthi Valluru, Managing Director of the Telangana Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC). These packages will be selectable via a tourism kiosk situated within the airport. Options will vary based on available time, ranging from single-site visits to multi-destination tours within Hyderabad. Crucially, transportation arrangements will ensure travelers reach back to RGIA in ample time for their onward flights.
State Body's Mandate and Existing Operations
The Telangana State Tourism Development Corporation (TGTDC), incorporated in August 2014, is tasked with fostering tourism infrastructure and developing package tours. Its operational scope reportedly includes hotels, resorts, wayside amenities, and various tour packages. The corporation has also shown engagement with 'Heritage, Pilgrimage, and Eco-tourism' sectors.

A City for Layovers
Hyderabad, often dubbed the 'City of Pearls,' presents a potential destination for those with extended layovers. Resources suggest the availability of 'hourly hotels' for travelers seeking accommodations for short durations during their transit. This implies a recognition of the practical needs of passengers facing long waits between flights. The city's historical significance, referencing sites like the Chowmahalla Palace, is noted alongside its modern technological hubs.
