Carolina Hurricanes have taken a commanding 2-0 lead in their second-round playoff series against the Philadelphia Flyers, following a 3-2 overtime victory on Monday night. The decisive goal came from Taylor Hall at 18:54 of the extra period.
Taylor Hall's overtime goal secured a 2-0 series lead for the Carolina Hurricanes against the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Hurricanes found themselves trailing early in the game, a deficit of 2-0 within the first period after Jamie Drysdale and Sean Couturier scored for the Flyers in a 39-second span. This marked the first time Carolina had been behind at any point in their postseason run.
Nikolaj Ehlers initiated the comeback with a power-play goal in the second period, cutting the Flyers' lead in half.
Seth Jarvis then scored the equalizer in the third period, forcing overtime.
"He hopped up as Jackson Blake battled for the loose puck, corralled it and beat Vladar to cap a night that saw the Hurricanes fall behind 2-0 quickly for their first deficit of the postseason."
The Flyers' goaltender, Dan Vladar, made 40 saves, including stopping Eric Robinson on two separate breakaways in the second period. Despite Vladar's efforts, the Hurricanes' offensive pressure eventually broke through.

"Compared to a cagey third period, overtime was a track meet. But as the clock ticked toward the final minute, Sean Walker breezed through the neutral zone before dishing to Hall on the wing, who drove to the net and managed to slam home his own rebound to wrap up a sixth straight win for the Hurricanes."
Frederik Andersen, in net for Carolina, made 34 saves, with a significant portion coming during the overtime period. Hall himself commented on the goal, noting he only realized he had fallen on a replay. The win extends the Hurricanes' current winning streak to six games.
Series Context
This victory places the Hurricanes in a strong position as the series shifts. Their performance against the Flyers continues a successful playoff run, following a 2-0 opening-round series win against the Ottawa Senators, where both Hall and Andersen also contributed to the victory.
