A supposed prototype of the Google Pixel Watch 5 has surfaced under peculiar circumstances, allegedly discovered by a friend of Randy Pitchford, co-founder of Gearbox Software, while scuba diving near St. Martin. The device, which Pitchford shared images of online, reportedly displays "Pixel Watch 5" on its reverse, indicating a model not yet officially announced by Google.
The alleged discovery presents an unusual leak for Google's unreleased hardware, with the smartwatch reportedly found functional enough to display the time despite an empty battery after being submerged in the sea. This incident marks a departure from typical tech leaks, often involving insider information or factory mishaps. The design appears consistent with the previous Pixel Watch 4's bubble-style aesthetic.
Pitchford, who claimed the finder approached him due to his perceived connections in the tech industry, posted the images to X (formerly Twitter), initially seeking to help return the item to its owner. He later stated he was in contact with the owner and emphasized the importance of returning found property.

Google has not officially commented on the matter. The Pixel Watch 5 is widely anticipated for an unveiling at Google's annual Pixel event, typically held in August or September. While the submerged device's authenticity remains unconfirmed, the unusual circumstances have certainly fueled speculation regarding Google's hardware development and leak control. The watch's IP68 rating suggests it should withstand submersion, but its appearance at the bottom of the ocean, functional and branded as an unreleased model, raises questions.
