FOOTBALL STAR FACES SUSPENSION FOLLOWING AJACCIO ACCUSATIONS
FIFA has handed Algerian international Youcef Belaïli a one-year suspension from all football activities. The decision follows a dispute involving his former club, AC Ajaccio. Ajaccio accused Belaïli of submitting a questionable document during proceedings related to a financial disagreement between the player and the Corsican club. Belaïli has also been fined 5,000 Swiss francs.
The suspension comes at a time when Belaïli is already sidelined with a knee injury, specifically a torn cruciate ligament he sustained late last year. He is currently undergoing rehabilitation. The situation unfolds just before a significant fixture for his current team, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, who are set to face Al Ahly in the African Champions League quarter-finals.
THE AJACCIO ALLEGATIONS
The core of the controversy centers on a document that AC Ajaccio claims is falsified. The French club alleges an "organized scam" by Belaïli's camp, extorting €380,000 based on what they describe as a "manifestly false" document. This alleged document was reportedly used in a FIFA ruling that favored Belaïli. Ajaccio, reportedly struggling with severe financial issues and internal turmoil, claims this ruling could jeopardize the club's existence.

BACKGROUND OF CONFLICT
This FIFA ban is the latest in a series of complications surrounding the player. Previously, reports indicated that Belaïli faced financial sanctions from his current club, Espérance Sportive de Tunis, with his future there uncertain as his contract approached its end.
Further complicating his recent history, Belaïli was reportedly detained by French police upon arrival at Roissy Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, transiting from the United States back to Algeria. Images circulating on social media appeared to show him being escorted by police, with his hands cuffed and barefoot on the tarmac. The specific reasons for this apprehension remain undisclosed.
Additionally, national team matters have also seen Belaïli excluded. In November 2025, the Algerian coach opted to leave him out of the squad, citing the need for more disciplined players who could integrate into a collective pressing system, suggesting that managing Belaïli's temperament was a factor in the decision.
