Erskine Park, NSW – A school bus carrying approximately 40 students from Erskine Park High School veered off the road and collided with a tree on Erskine Park Road shortly before 1pm on Thursday. The incident has left the bus driver in a critical condition, requiring urgent hospital treatment.
Ten students, aged between 16 and 18, were transported to various hospitals for injuries described as minor, with one sustaining suspected fractures. Emergency services, including NSW Police, Ambulance, and Fire and Rescue NSW, were dispatched to the scene. The Department of Education also attended.
While the majority of the 41 students on board were reported as shaken but physically unharmed, a teacher also on the bus was among those unaffected by physical injury.
Reports suggest the driver may have experienced a medical episode immediately prior to the crash. One account from a year 12 student indicated an attempt to intervene by grabbing the steering wheel, though this was reportedly unsuccessful. The driver, believed to be in his 50s, was conveyed to Westmead Hospital.
